Local sites are not just for the tourists One of the best vrys to become familiar with one’s own city is to entertain an out-of-town friend or relative for a weex or so. With the predicted influx of eight million visitors to the city this summer, many residents of the North Shore will be entertaining tourists, and in the process discovering, perhaps for the first time, what the North Shore has to offer. The setting of the community is an attraction in itself. Rated among the three most beautiful in the world, only slightly behind Rio de Janeiro and Hong Kong, the Lower Mainland offers the casual observer the main in- gredients of spectacular beauty: mountains, ocean, beaches, green grass and modern architecture. The landscape is punctuated with parks and lakes, gardens and forests. Some of the spots to see on the Ne-th Shore include: Capilano Suspension Bridge This is one of the world’s longest suspension bridges, measuring 137 metres across the Capilano Canyon. It is 70 metres above the Capilano River and of- fers a magnificent setting among dense forests, steep rocks, a deep canyon and rushing waters. During the summer, the bridge is il- luminated at night. How to get there: Halfway up Capilano Road or take Queens Road to Capilano. Local Expo events EVENTS LOCATION “Gardens 86"' - City/Dia.
