Joan Clayrook, head of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, called the decision “short- sighted” and discouraging. Consumer activist Ralph Nader claimed the decision will “condemn tens of thousands of Americans to death and injunes on the highways every year.” Clayrook said airbags are a “real public health op- portunity that is being un- dermined by a company that controls 50 per cent of the U.S. market.” 11/72 West 3rd St beside the ICBC Cctams Cente) North Vancouver 80 Phoenix 2-Door Front Wheel Orive, Auto Trans . Under a ruling by the Transportation Department, the industry must meet a standard for automatic crash protection in all cars by the 1984 model year. Big cars come first, in 1982, and small ones later. The standard does not specify what type of technology - airbags or automatic belts - must be used to fulfill the requirement. Nader said there is evidence the automatic belts are easier to disable than airbags.Currently, only an estimated 11 per cent of motorists use seat belts. 987-2211 ROYAL PONTIAC BUICK LTD. 79 Lebaron S/W Town & Country, Full Factory Extras, including feather intenor and still on Factory Warranty Stk No 9810B *8388 Trans Am 10th Anniversary Hard To Find Model Onty 7.500 | butit, all factory extras inchded Hatch TF Root) Stk No FII/3A *13,680 79 Olds Royale Buckets root an CONSOle Moon cond stereo plus mary more factory orxtras Sth No HOO?
