It was a four-room cottage built
on the very edge of the canyon in
1889, by George Grant Mackay.

The Mackay cabin was the first

. residence in the Capilano area.

Elizabeth Rebbeck was widowed
in 1910 and lived with her. three
children in the cliff house while
they managed. the suspension
bridge for Edward Mahon, the
owner at that time.

She ran the teahouse and devel--

oped the gardens around the
_ suspension bridge site to welcome
tourists from all over the world.

Edward Mahon - married her.
daughter Lilette, and in 1921,
Elizabeth fell in love and secretiy
married the fire warden for the
district, Mac MacEacharn, who
was 20 years her junior.

Under his management, the
suspension bridge as a tourist at-
traction flourished for an addi-
tional 20 years. -

Elizabeth moved into their new
home with Mac and his daughter
at the end of October 1934 but she
died in February 1935 after a
short illness.

This log structure in a-delightful:
setting has since been operated as
a restaurant and is owned by -
Nancy Stibbard.
