16 - Friday, February 15, 1991 ~- North Shore News HOME & GARDEN BCAA launches home protection program THE B.C. Automobile Associa- tion has launched a program that will pay a reward to anyone who furnishes information leading to the arrest and conviction of a per- son who burglarizes a home in- sured by the Association. Called Home Protection Plus, the project will give a sticker to every BCAA member who renews or buys home, apartment or con- dominium insurance after Feb. 1, 1991. The sticker is to be affixed to a glass door or window in the member’s home, and will state that a maximum $1,000 reward will be paid to the person who provides information leading to the conviction of a burglar of that home. “We see this offer as another way in which BCAA provides se- curity and peace of mind to our members,"’ says Susan Bigelow, BCAA’s director of insurance agencies and club services. ‘‘Our Emergency Road Service gives members on-the-road peace of mind, and this program will help give that same sense of security to our members at home.”* The stickers, or decals, will be provided to each member when they buy or renew their home in- surance. Members who currently have BCAA home insurance, but who would rather not wait for their renewal date to receive their sticker, can request one at their nearest Service Centre. The plot thickens in the garden of hope JOANNA TUDAN-SAINBERG is always nourishing dreams with hope. Founder of a lunch pro- gram for children in Vancouver, this energetic North Vancouver woman is still making efforts to nourish children, only in this case it’s spiritual nourishment. By Barbara Black News Reporter In front of the Vancouver Art Gallery is one of her projects — but you can't see it just yet. It's, well, underground — 2,100 tulip bulbs planted in a garden of hope. In the spring it will be a splash of brilliant heart-red in the metropol- itan environment. And, says Tudan-Sainberg, it wili represent hope for the youth of the pro- vince. It all sprouted as a result of the lunch program. In 1988, corporate sponsors showed their support for nourishing children by donating time and materials to plant the garden outside the Art Gallery and to fund the lunch program. Two years fater, the garden still grows. “f've used the tulip bulb since 1964 for positive thinking. The bulb survives with food from its growing season.’’ By drawing an anology with the bulb, she teaches children that the tools necessary to go on in life are inside themselves, WE DO IT ALL FOR YOU! © Reface or replace your existing cabinets e Redo the counters « Kitchen & bathroom remodelling our specialty CO-ORDINATED Established KITCHENS ix: 225 East First, 985-9128 North Van that they come from their experi- ence of life. A cancer patient herself, she has also used tiie bulb to boost morale among cancer pa- tients. With the present crisis in the Gulf, Tudan-Sainberg believes there is a real need to show children that there is hope for the future. And, she. points out, children who have no hope for the future have no interest in preserv- ing the environment because they do not believe the world will be around for much longer. “What the idea of the garden is, is if a child feels nobody cares, he has no hope. (But) if a child feels the whole community is behind him then he can do any- thing.”’ The garden will be in full bloom come Mother’s Day, representing, says Tudan-Sainberg, ‘‘the heart of the community and its care for the future of its youth.”’ For more information on Nourishing Dreams With Hope contact Tudan-Sainberg at 985- 6242. a -Ultrasonic - = VENETIAN.
