The key to ‘hot’ Seminar at Centennial Friday WHEN THE emcee at a recent national convention welcomed keynote speaker Pat Love to the podiuny he referred to her popu- lar seminar series as Hot Monotony, not Hot Monogamy. By Layne Christensen Community Reporter The Freudian slip was apropos, says this Texas-based marriage and family therapist, because “il you're not mindful of working on your reli- tionship. whut is in the beginning hot monogamy often becomes hot monotony.” Through audio cassette tapes, it popular book (Hor Monogamy, Penguin Books, $14.50) and appear- ances on Oprali, Love has spread her view on love and what couples can do to keep passion and intimacy in a relationship. Love has also been popular on the seminar circuit. and on Friday, Oct. 27, she will bring Hot Monogamy to Centennial Theatre. The evening is co-sponsored by the North Shore News, Family Services of the North Shore and Northwest Institute for Relationship Therapy. Speaking over the phone from her home in Austin, Texas, Love dis- cussed the format for the evening. While her book und tapes go into detail about sexual tools and tech- niques to improve lovemaking, it will be the audience at Friday's two-and- a-half hour session that will deter- mine how down and dirty she gets. “T want to engage people not offend them,” she says. What she will discuss is “the chemistry of love,” the phenomenon of falling in love froma biological point of view. Sound bor- ing? Not acvording to Love, who - affirms that “your most powerful sex- ual organ is. your brain” and “the most efficient (lovemaking) tool is an understanding of love.” She contends that when we fall in love, our bodies release a hormone called phenylethylamine, or PEA. It _ is this hormone that gives us a sense of euphoria and positive outlook. This romantic “high” can last any- where from two minutes to four years, but is only temporary, When we come “down,” it becomes neces- “sary to work at our relationship and explore the paths that will allow us to transform our love from “romantic” to “vintage.” When one or both parties experi- ences low sexual desire along the _ way, problems inevitably arise.
