Frolic in the Cove IT’S STARTING to feel like fall, which means that plans for the Seymour Art Gallery’s second annual Frolic is well underway! There’s a lot in store for you at this year’s fundraising event on Tuesday, Sept. 27, at 6:30 par. in the Deep Cove Cultural Centre, 4360 Gallant Ave. Frolic 94 features a special performance of the British come- dy Noises Off, staged by First impressions Theatre Company. Before the show, there will be hors d’oeuvre, martinis and a silent auction. After the performance, the audience is invited to jain mem- bers of the cast for coffee and dessert in the Green Room. Call for plays u & THE NEW Play Centre (NPC) holds its fourth annual 24-hour Playwriting Competition Oct. 9 and 10 at Performance Works on Granville Island. Registrations are now being accepted. Rules for the competition are as follows: * Script must be written on the premises. * Only two pages of notes are permitted on the premises at the start of the compelition. ® Prize-winning plays in other competitions are not eligible. ° Participants using their own computers will be asked to show that a manuscript does not exist in memory. * Participants entering the competition thereby declare them- selves available for a workshop and reading of their script on Tuesday, Oct. 11. The registration deadline is 6 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 5. Entrants are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis. A regis- tration fee of $25 applies. Known as the “musical of musicals, Frank Loesser’s The Most Happy Fella was last staged in Vancouver 30 years ago at the 1965 Vancouver International Festival. Strong in Italian content, this combination opera and Broadway-style musical is rich with love songs, passionate arias and exuberant trios. The production is demanding to performers, both vocally and dramatically. The music ranges from country and western to modern to opera. Auditions will be held Wednesday, Sept. 7 and Friday, Sept. 9 at Ryerson United Church, at the corner of 45th and Yew in Vancouver, at 7:30 p.m. The production is set to play the North Vancouver Centennial Theatre February and March 1995.
