anges improve race for fans A NEW reserved seat con- firmation systera, increased seating, reiocation§ of selected grandstands and giant TV screens are among the changes for the second annual Molsen Indy Van- couver, scheduled for Aug. 30, 31, and Sept. 1. The inaugural Molson Indy drew a record race-day crowd, as close to 70,000 fans jammed the 1.73 mile circuit around Pacitic Place and B.C, Stadium. The race, which offers $1 mil- lion U.S. in prize money, 1s one of 17 events forming the CART/ PPG Indy Car World | series championship won last year by Al Unser Jr. “One of the advantages to a temporary race circuit such as ours is the ability to make ad- justments from year to year, such as improving sightlines and overall viewing for the race fans,’ said John Frasco, president of the Molson Indy Vancouver. Reserved seating capacity has been increased from 38,000 to 41,000. The most significant grandstand change will be the ad- dition of a new reserved Blue grandstand. Formula Ailantic series, part of the Labor Day Weekend Molson Indy. This race will be held in the afternoon of Saturday, Aug. 3ist, foitowing the Indy route. As Canada’s only woman to possess an international pro-racing driver’s licence, Kat Teasdale clearly takes her driving career seriously. ‘*Racing cars is a full-time job for me," says Kat, ‘‘and | have to treat it like a business. [ love what I do, but that makes me no dif- ferent from many business people 1 meet every day.’’ Kat's reputation as a world class driver and her impressive list of awards support her belief that women can compete effectively in this predominantly male sport. Kim Baker, president of Bakeracing, cails her ‘‘feariess,’’ and ‘‘a championship § calibre driver.”? In 1990 Kat joined the prestigious Bakeracing Corvette team to drive the Protein Foods/Bakeracing Corvette, chailenging for the championship in the Sports Car Club of America (SCCA) Escort World Challenge.
