Native cultural festival comes to N. Van

THE CAPILANO Longhouse on
the Squamish Reserve in North
Vancouver will be the site on
Saturday, May 27 of the eighth
annual International First Peoples’
Cultural Festival.

Hosted by the Native Education

Centre of Vancouver, the festival
begins at 3 p.m. and includes a
display of Indian arts and crafts, a
barbecue salmon dinner and an
evening of traditional and con-
temporary Indian entertainment
from across North America.

Featured in the festival are the
Cape Fox Dancers from Seattle,
Chuck Beaver from Big Stoney,
Alberta, Billy Britain, a world
champion hoop dancer, and Jane
Peloquin, an Indian musician from
Thunder Bay.

. The First Peoples’ Interrational
Cultural Festival is B.C.’s largest
indigenous peoples gathering and
offers Native and non-Native peo-
ple of B.C. a unique opportunity
to see the richness and variety of
Native Indian culture in a tradi-

tional longhouse setting.

Tickets are $10 in advance and
