The 1989 Plymouth Acclaim is a state-of-the-art mid-sized sedan designed to appeal to families desiring a sporty, fun-to-drive car with the interior room required by a growing household. The all-new Plymouth Acclaim is available in three price classes — Plymouth Acclaim, Acclaim LE and the premium Acclaim LX. The base Plymouth Acclaim four-door sedan was designed as an unusually complete family car with more than 50 standard features. Among these are power- assisted front disc brakes, power- wssisted rack-and-pinion steering, a long-life stainless steel exhaust system, 61-litre (13.4 Imperial gallon) fuel tank and remote fuel door and trunk lid release. The all-new Plymouth Acclaim is built on a 2,624 mm (103.3 inch) wheelbase. Overall length is 4,602 mum (181.2 inches). Piymouth Acclaim’s aerodynamic lines and clean, con- temporary exterior styling are reflected in Acclaim’s silhouette, doors and flush-mounted wind- shield, rear window and aero-style headlamps with wraparound park- ing and side marker lights. Side windows are semi-flush. Acclaim’s windshield wipers are recessed at the base of the windshield. Acclaim's upper door frame and belt moldings are stainless steel co-extruded with black vinyl for corrosion protection. A turbocharged version of the 2.5L engine is optionally available in Acclaim and Acclaim LE with a five-speed manual or three-speed automatic transaxle. A 3.0-litre V-6 engine with elec- tronic fuel injection and teamed with Chrysler’s new four-speed, electronic automatic transaxle is standard in the premium Plymouth Acclaim LX. The industry’s first electronically-contro!lled automatic transmission, the four-speed automatic transaxle provides smooth, precise shift quality and excellent fuel economy. The roominess and comfort of the standard five- passenger Acclaim with front bucket seats are found as well in the six-passenger version in which the front seat is an optional 50/50 split benc’: seat. Acclaim’s standard bucket seats are upholstered in cloth and vinyl. Premium cloth bucket seats are standard on Acclaim LE and LX. The optional 50/50 split bench seats have dual folding armrests. Premium bucket seats feature an adjustable seven-position manual lumbar for the driver and four-way adjustable head restraints for both front seat occupants.
