mam W/Y police promote District mayor acclaimed NORTH VANCOUVER District Mayor Marilyn Baker has been officially acclaimed as the municipality's mayor for another two years. Prospective challenger Danny Carlsen, who had to rcefile his nomination papers or apneal his rejection to the provincial court by 5 p.m. Wednesday in order to remain a bonafide candidate, failed to appeal the deciston against him. The post office truck driver, who ran against Baker in 1982, originally filed his nomination papers before the noon Oct. 27 deadline, but one of his two nominators was found to have not been on the district voter’s list. Prior to noon Monday, Carlsen could have refiled his’ nomina- tion papers with a nominator who was on the district voter’s list. Baker will begin serving her third consecutive mayora! term fol- lowing the Nov. 15 municipal election. Jewel thief pleads guilty THE 37-YEAR-OLD former Delta policeman recently sentenced to eight years in jail for his part in a North Vancouver jewel robbery has pleaded guiity to two additional criminal charges. Paul Singh Gill appeared in Vancouver county court Monday aud Wedazsday to face one count of possession of stolen property and one count of attempted fraud. ; The possession charge was laid against him in connection with a - necklace and -various jewels take in the North Vancouver robbery that he ‘was caught with before he weat to trial on the original -seven charges stemming from the robbery. . Gill. was charged with attempted fraud in connection with the deposit of fraudulent certified cheques in four bank gccounts. . After pleading guiliy to the fraud charge Monday, Gill was ’ remanded to Nov. 12 for sentencing. ; "He pleaded guilty to the possession charge Wednesday and was - sentenced to one year in-jail. The sentence will be served concur- rently. with the time Gillis already serving. - Gill was sentenced to eight years in jail June 24 after being found guilty on charges of armed robbery, unlawful confinement, assault and break and enter in connection with a Feb, 15, 1985 jewel heist from a Lynn Valley.home that netted close to $400,000 in gold and ‘jewels. a ‘Man arrested for stolen goods ’ WEST VANCOUVER Police arrested a 22-year-old North Van- _ eouver mar for possession of stolen property and theft under $1,000. .
