The Fund came into being last. year when cutbacks threatened the five-year undergraduate program in Special Education. A group of concerned citizens found that this was the only pro- gram of its kind in Canada, and that the importance of training special teachers became even more pro- nounced just ai the time when the program became threatened: advances in medical and drug therapy were enabling handicapped kids to leave institutions in favor of reguiar schools, with Special Ed teachers playing a decisive role. The Endowment Fund's commitment is that research and community support will have a decisive and catalytic effect in helping 20% of the children in this Province — the Special-needs kids. The Jazz Festival is just one way of helping the Fund pick up where medicine leaves off — helping the children lead fuller and more independent lives. Admission is $8 and children 12 and under get in for half price. Brunch is ex- LACH WITH TRAMA This Saturday night and continues every Saturday night all summer long.
