Wl mailbox MK Subdivision vote changed OPEN LETTER TO N. VAN DISTRICT COUNCIL We, the concerned residents of the Thames Creek area, would like to ex- press our distaste with the District Council’s decision of October 1 to.overturn its previous decision regarding the application #3174B for increased subdivision of Mr. J.A. Bresett of 1477 Demp- sey Road in May 1984. Having expressed our con- cern as local residents and after much vigorous lobby- ing, a decision against the controversial 3-lot subdivi- sion was brought about by Council in May. Satisfied with the application which would have increased the pre- sent lot subdivision to a 3-lot subdivision was rejected, and confident the matter was laid lo resi, we obviously pursued no further. Nothing more was heard until October 1, three hours before another vote was to be taken on the application. Luckily a full agenda of Council members was not present, therefore, the vote could not be taken. In all fairness, why were we (the residents most to be affected) not notified of Council's decision to re-open the mat- ter? If it was not for the cons- cientiousness of a certain alderman we would not have known the application was being reconsidered at all un- ul, of course, it would have been too late to reaet. Is this how our supposed open Dog-catcher funding Dear Editor: With regard to my recent letter (Sept. 28th)- on dog control, due to afi oversight or possible needed editing, a paragraph from my original letter was deleted. This left room for misinterpretation of my intent. My desire was, and still is, that the names and phone numbers of those who would be willing (if necessary) to contribute funds for a full- time dog catcher be sent to me. | wished to be able to go to our administration and show that there are many of us who are not happy with the present situation. After numerous contacts with the existing Enforce- ment Officers | am_ fully satisfied that they are doing all that can be done consider- ing the limited manpower and resources. The omitted paragraph reads: ‘“‘If this appeal does work and sufficient money can be raised, | will try and find out if and to what department at the Municipal Hall your contribution can be made, and | will get back to you by telephone.’* The cheques that were sent to me have been destroyed. On the matter of the vote, in May the vote on the ap- plication was three for, three opposed, with one alderman (Mr. Dykeman) not present. Thus the application was declined because of the need- ed majority vote. We have since learned that the majori- ty vote needed has to be a five for, two opposed decision, with a full Council present. If a full Council was present in May at the time of the first vote the application, accor- ding to Council’s majority vote, would still be declined. Since the May vote a certain alderman’s vote has been swayed, thus the vote on Oc- tober 1 was approved five for, two opposed. We respectfully request that Council explain to us, through this paper, what new information has been brought forward since May, to not only warrant another vote but to change its outcome. Also, is ft the District of North Vancouver's policy to allow the filling in of ‘‘creek flood-plane’’ regardiess of topography just for the sake of a subdivision? Is it fair to force upon ajoining landowners lots that barely meet the minimum square footage area required for the RS3 Zoning of the area. Lots that are almost one-third the average size of the Thames Court Subdivi- sion lots? Finally, if Council members are supposed to be the elected voice of the com- munity, why did it choose to vote against the vast 90% majority of local residents who were opposed to the development?
