play goes on

TOURNAMENT play in the
North Shore Youth Soccer
Association continued last
weekend, despite poor
weather.

Bad playing conditions did
stop some teams from play-
ing Saturday, and there were
no games Sunday. But for
those teams who did play,
shutouts seemed to be the
name of the game.

broadcast on the North
Shore cable station, channel
10.

The listings are being
broadcast every Friday after-
noon until 6 p.m. and after
11 p.m. on the Telepages
service.

Last minute changes will
be telecast on Saturday mor-
nings, and players should
watch between 7:30 a.m.
and 8 a.m. for such things as
blanket cancellation because
of rain or snow. The morn-
ing listings are on until 9
a.m.

NV leads the way

WITH THE Metro League
closing out its final week of
regular season piay, North
Van Harbour City’s 11-0 win
over the Continentals Sun-
day at West Van left them
only one win away from clin-
ching a first place finish as
the league gears up for its
playoff round.

Although Harbour City’s
nearest rivals, the West Van
Rockets, had a winning
weekend in downing the
Continentals 13-5 on Satur
day, and then the Blues 10-4
on Sunday at Port Co
quitlam, a North Van win
this week over Coquitlam
would seal the Rockets’ fate
with a second place finish.

Kling had little difficulty in
recording his first shutout of
the year, facing only 19 shots
as his team blanked the Con-
tinentals 11-0.

Steve Okrainetz paced the
North Van scorers with a hat
trick while Phil Mills and
Daryl Stanwood each scored
a pair.

Meanwhile, at PoCo, the
Rockets went on a scoring
spree of their own to dump
the Blues 10-4.

Byron Weese ied the
Rocket scoring attack with a
hat trick while Norm Sawers
and Scott Drummond and
Paul Patterson each scored
twice and Bruce Bradshaw
contributed a single.
