For some reason, though, . we hesitate to do ourselves this courtesy. We feel some- how, it is self-indulgent. or self-centred, or immodest, to acknowledge our own efforts. Not so. Knowing when and how to be. good to our- selves can’ help us through many of life’s difficult situa- tions. And becoming less dependent on the opinions and attitudes of others will make us stronger, more successful people. There are many ways of rewarding ourselves for success in our weight control programs. Doubtless you have discovered your own personal methods, but since variety is the spice of life, here are a few more ideas from some fellow weight losers I talk with often. The simplest and most obvious way to reward your- self for a job well done (a S- pound weight loss, a success- ful week) is to buy an item that you have been longing for. Since losing weight ‘means new sizes anyway, attractive clothes are a great choice. If your budget is limited, try smaller items, a ‘pretty scarf or pin, cologne, Or. “reward” yourself with items you need, but hold off until you reach some special goal before you buy. Rewards that will not make even a small dent in ‘bubble bath, a new lipstick. way to make use of them: On slips of paper, jot down a few activities you enjoy. A long, hot bath, a chapter.of a book, a leisurely walk in the park, even just an hour to yourself to do anything or nothing.
