Ambleside Beach raises skin awareness with screenings THE MOLE Patrol will be on hand at Ambleside Beach this August offering free skin cancer screenings to sun worshippers. The screenings are part of a series of screenings being offered this summer by Vancouver area dermatologists to raise awareness of skin cancer. During the first two screenings held in Vancouver Jast month, more than 2,000 people were ex- amined for signs of skin cancer and many more took advantage of free sunscreen samples and infor- mation available at the skin cancer screening tent. Skin cancer strikes one in seven Canadians and the number of cases is on the rise. This year, 526 people in B.C. will develop melanoma, the most serious type of skin cancer, and 70 people will die of it. Melanoma is the most common type of cancer in Canada and can be caused by over exposure to the sun. However, most skin cancers can be cured if detected and treated in time. Anyone who has experienced unusual skin changes such as a sore that doesn’t heal, a mole that may be changing, or any other worrisome skin condition, can drop in for a free examination by one of two B.C. dermatologists who will be staffing the skin cancer screening tent. During July, screening dates in- clude July 13 at English Bay and July 27 at Jericho Beach. The screening clinics at Ambleside Beach will be held Aug. 10 and 17. The screening times are between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. THE HAIR SALON THAT IS COMMITTED TO EXCELLENCE. At Beverly Ball Hair Design we are dedicated to creating exciting individual hairsryles.
