She was to fill those shoes just for the month of October, which is internationally recognized as breast cancer awareness month, but they fit so com- fortably that crusading for cancer awareness has become a full-time job. She has appeared on TV and radio, and spoken at forums and fundraising events but the project that is closest to her heart is the CD. Since its release last September it has sold more than 100,000 copies and raised $500,000 for breast cancer research. Ralph Jamieson used her influence as former lead singer with The Bells, a Montreal-based group whose "70s hit Stay Awhile. rose to No. 3.0n Billboard, . to approach 17 Canadian recording artists, all women. “I would love to say it was tough,” she says with a warm, tinkly laugh, but it wasn't.
