Terminal deal will guarantee
an estimated 60 jobs in NV

WESTERN Stevedoring
Ltd., operator of the North
Shore’s Lynnterm deep sea
terminal, has announced the
securing of new pulp con-
tracts worth $50 million
over five years.

The contracts, announced
Wednesday, June 16, will create
up to 60 permanent jobs at the
Lynaterm facility in North Van-
couver, a Western Stevedoring
spokesman confirmed.

The contracts are with MC
Forest Products for the Alberta
Pacific Pulp Mill, and Millar
Western Pulp for its Whitecourt
(Alberta) and Meadow Lake
(Saskatchewan) mills.

‘It’s a tremendous opportunity
for them,’’ said Jim O’Hara,
vice-president of port promotion
with the Vancouver Port Corp.
“It’s an example of their ag-
gressive marketing and it benefits
the community.”’

O'Hara said pulp shipments go-
ing through Lynnterm will in-
crease from last year’s 600,000
tonnes to 850,000 tonnes this year
and to 1.2 million tonnes in 1994.
