8 — Wednesday, Nov. 4, 1892 - North Shore News NDP increasing gov’t size, says Liberal Gordon Wilson THE LEADER of B.C.'s Opposi- tion was the guést speaker at a North Vancouver-Seymour Liber- al association dinner last Thursday night in North Vancouver. By A.P. McCredie News Reporter Gordon Wilson, introduced by North Shore MLA Daniel Jarvis as “‘the man who resurrected the B.C. Liberal party,’’ addressed approximately 100 people at the Coach House Inn. Wilson thanked North Shore Liberals for their unwavering support over the years and prom- ised the party’s ‘‘major breakthrough"”’ in the last provin- cial election was only the begin- ning of the Liberal’s ascent to governing the province. He also took a few swipes at the current party in power, much to the delight of his audience. “The NDP has really come out with a very slick and clever agen- da,”’ said Wilson. He said the NDP has not only one . increased the size of government, but also ihe scope of zovernment, accusing the Harcourt government of ‘“‘getting its fingers all over the Crown corporations, with Bob Williams (secretary to the cabinet committee on Crown corpora- tions) starting to manipulate the strings of the large crown corps.”’ On the topic of the recently an- nounced labor bill, Wilson denied charges that the Opposition was “‘soft-pedalling’’ the legislation. “There are flaws in this bill that we feel will further polarize unions and management,’ he said, adding that the legislation does not go far enough in remov- ing the adversarial nature of mediation talks. The Liberal leader ended his speech by asking the question, “Will the real premier please stand up?”” He said the reason Moe Sihota sits directly behind the premier during the sitting of the legislature is “so he can reach his hand in the back of Mike Harcourt to make his hand and mouth move." : a ARDAGH HUNTER TURNER Barristers & Solicitors Personal Injury AFTER HOURS FREE INITIAL CONSULTATION FAX Criminal Matters Only - arg. 926-3181 [986-4366 | 4366 06-9286 #300-1401 LONSDALE, NORTi4 VANCOUVER.
