Resident appalled over apuse of handicapped parking spaces ‘DO NON-DISABLED PEOPLE NOT REALIZE HOW LUCKY THEY ARE?’ Dear Editor: I am appalled at the number of people who park in handicap parking zones and use the excuse, ‘‘I’m only going to be a few minutes.”’ It’s those few minutes that prevent people like me, who need the space to get a wheelchair out, from go- ing into that particular store or facility. People should realize that there is a reason for handicap parking zones — people need them. Nothing is more infuriating than to see someone running out of a store to hop into their car which is parked iliegally. Do people not realize how lucky they are that they actually don’t have to use these spaces? That they actually can run or walk into that store? I can hardly wait for the day that I’m out of this wheelchair and I can enjoy the short walk from the parking lot. But until then I need the space as do many others who walk with canes or have wheelchairs. If the police would ticket those violators there may be less abuse. Until then, please think twice before parking in those spaces. Be thankful for your health and walk the few extra steps and save the spot for someone who really needs it. E.
