inscribed across each knuckle
sandwich, says it all about this
band. This bunch of street fighters,
armed with accordion, penny
whistle, brass and strings, don’t
throw wild punches when it
comes to what really matters in
this hard and cynical world.

The wildmen serve up the latest
instalment of a four album run of
brawling, rowdy, incisive, roman-
tic and sentimental songs, with the
trademark panache that the rabid
Pogue Mahon faithful have come
to expect. Produced again by
Steve Lillywhite, the rogue Lon-
doners push their folk orchestra
into some new musical territory,
but not at the expense of the sharp
lyrics of the ever growling former
head of The Nipple Erectors,
Shane MacGowan.

The record also features a more
diversified version of the band,
with the Pogues’ Philip Chevron,
Darryl Hunt and Terry Woods
