HIGH SCHOOL SPORTS Field hockey NORTH SHORE schools won six, lost six and tied six against Vancouver teams in the Vancouver & District senior girls’ invitational field hockey tournament held at Hugo Ray Park and Burnaby Lake Sports Howe Scund stopped Notre Dame 2-0 and tied Point Grey 1-1 in the tournament for the top teams from Vancouver, Burnaby and the North Shore. West Vancouver opened with a 3-1 win over Prince of Wales, but lost 3-0 to Crofton House, 2-1 to Notre Dame and 1-0 to Point Grey. Seycove had scoreless ties with Crofton and Prince of Wales be- fore losing 2-0 to both Point Grey and Notre Dame. In the tournament for the next- ranked teams, Handsworth scored 1-0 wins over John Oliver and Winston Churchill in its only two games. Sentinel defeated Windermere 5-1, lost 1-0 to Little Flower and then had identical 1-1 ties with Churchill and John Oliver. Carson Graham whipped Windermere 3-0 and had a scoreless tie with Little Flower. The two-day tournament is a traditional event played in the middle of the season pitting teams of equal calibre. Mid-season, the minor division’s Bombers are in first place, follow- ed by the Lions in second and a three-way tie between the Spar- tans, Browns and Cowboys. Winless, the Bears are in last place of the minor division stan- dings. No weekend games are as yet reflected in the latest standings. Junior bantam division stan- dings have the Warriors in top spot, followed by the Esks, Colts, Raiders and Stamps; the last-pace Cougars are winless. The undefeated Riders hald the lead in Flag I action, with the Terminators just two points. behind; the Bobcats and Biuebombers are tied in third. Flag If’s Dolphins hold a strong spot at the top of the division, but the Sea Hawks are following close- ly. The Bengals and the Riders share third spot as the Panthers and the Rams shore up the bottom end of the standings. Airforce leads the Flag III divi- sion standings; tied for second are the Hurricanes and the Surfers as the Huskies sit in last place.
