eee ene S Strmgre PDAS ere ko Coy ee te ee A. Well, obviously the waterfront location had a lot to do with it, also the standard of accommodation .is probably superior to that of any other luxury ‘condominium in the Vancouver area. Our empha- sis on security is possibly a selling point, as | am - aware that several of Gur purchasers also have winter homes down south, You will have noticed the video intercom system. As wel! we have all the apartments wired to a security system. , Q. There's also a concierge ! understand? . ‘A Yes, Mr, Gieman, our concierge, certainly plays a role in the security system. in addition, he also © does a great deal more for the residents in the way af personal services - services which a building manager in a less exclusive building would not _hormally perform. 2. You have a most impressive doorman, who i is * obviously a former British military gentleman? | Doorman- Harold Monks A. Yes, Mr. Monks, formerly of the Royal Fusiliers. helps make Waterford House a little special. He is giving usa tremendous hand.during the marketing period while also having a lot of fun in his spick and span uniform, He seems to be sucha hit with the ladies! *. Q. May Jask, is Waterford des eloped with foreign money? A. Heavens, no! What are you getting al? Q. Well, | have heard, and please correct me if | am wrong, thal your company was developing the building on behalf of an offshore investor. A. Actually, | bought the property from a company with Hong Kong connections, but it was built by Polygon Properties Limited and with financing from a Canadian chartered bank. Q. Then Polygon is strictly a Canadian company? A. Yes, we are Canadian owned and our principals have been in the development industry in the Van- couver area for over 30 years, I should add that we also have a US. affiliate company engaged in de; velopment in Washington and Southern California. Q. I detect a bit of an accent, are you English? A. As it happens, | am not. But { grew up‘behind ° “the tweed curtain” in Victoria which may have something to do with my accent. In fact, lam proud to be the fifth generation of my family to live in British Columbia. My great grandfather, James Dunsmuir, was premier and lieutenant governor around 1900. Q. Wouldn't a Waterford House aparlment make a great investment, one that can only i increase in price over time? A. Possibly it would, But, | would hope that most - people would be so impressed with Waterford House's attractive features that they would want to make their home there. Q. One peculiar feature of your marketing sis that you don't hold “open houses." In fact, | am told that you have been turning away people dropping by without an appointment. Isn't that rude? A. I don't think so. In fact, it is really a litte pre- sumptious of people to believe that they have the right to walk into a luxury residence without an ap- pointment..We require appointments in the interest of the security of the people living in the building. While this may be unusual in West Vancouver, you should be aware that it is standard practice for luxury condominiums in the United States. We also want our sales staff to sive their full attention to people considerate enough te make appointments, Q. Polygon does ils own marketing | believe? A. Yes, our sales manager, Jacqueline Askew, can be found at Waterford House when she is not smashing tennis balls around at the Hollyburn Club! Jackie has a tremendous background in condominium sales and knows that our company will go to great lengths to satisfy the varying re- quirements of purchasers. Of course, we also co- operate with licensed real estate agents, Q. Is Polygon planning any more projects in West Vancouver? A. We now have a condominium called The Summit under construction on Folkestone Way above Panorama Village. These will be rather spe- cial residences with superb views and specifica- tions in excess of anything that has been built up Concierge- Gerard Oleman there. There are 32 apartments and'13 very unique townhouses. People can gel more information by calling Tara Wells at 430-421). A: Won't The Summit compete with Waterford House? we A..Not really, they are two very distinct types of . housing which appeal to quite different markets. In fact, | am not sure that any condominium in Greater Vancouver. competes directly with Water- ford House! It is a unique residence and represents probably one of the very last opportunities to pur- chase in a luxury concrete building along the West Vancouver waterfront. Q. A final question please, how do you like being a developer in West Vancouver? A. Well, can tell you that while Polygon develops residential and commercial buildings throughout Greater Vancouver, there is no community in which we would rather build than West Vancouver. [ live here and [ove its natural beauty and friendly people, What is more, we have a first class muni- cipal government and a police force that | believe provides the highest standard of service to the tax- payers of any community in British Columbia. A great antidote for stress is to cross the Lions Gate Bridge to West Vancouver after a hard day's slogging in the office, knowing that you have the evening or weekend to relax and enjoy the serene beauly of our mountains, sea and sky. We are proud to have developed Waterford House in lovely West Vancouver. Appointments to view Waterford House may be made by telephoning 925-1237 noon to 5 p.m. daily (except Friday). acqueline Askew Sales Manager- 23 - Sunday, October 6, 1985 - North Shore News
