y CHRIS LLOYD Members of the Hospital Employees Union began a sit-in at Lions Gate last week ~ which spread to other hospitals, protesting layoffs of some 0600 part-time members. _The layoffs were rescind- ed over the weekend on an interim basis by Larson, pen- ding an arbitrated- decision he is to give by June 30, the date the layoffs were to become effective. As a result of hearings before the labor relations board, which began on an in- formal basis Friday and had reached the formal stage by Saturday but which led to no accord, it was decided Lar- son would settle the mater by binding arbitration. The layoffs, affecting some 43 at Lions Gate. began after an arbitrated declaration by Larson over employment status. At one time when call- ing for him, the News was told he was busy cleaning toilets.
