Trumpeter/composer/pi anist: Alan Matheson cele- brates a half-century of the “cool” in a mixture of origi- nal and classic arrangements on Friday, Jan. 14 at §& p.m. in the Capilano College Performing Arts Theatre. Joining Matheson will be Rob MeKenzic on trombone, Dawn Haylett on french horn, David Branter and Julia Nolan on saxophone, Steve Toren on tuba, Chris Sigerson on piano, Ross Botten on bass and Craig Scott on drums. Also includ- ed on the program will be compositions by Matheson, Duke — Ellington, —_ Billy Stravhorn, Tadd Dameron, Gil Evans, John Lewis and Sean Kenton. This concert is presented by the Capilano College bachelor of jazz studies pro- gram. Matheson is Jeader of his own septet, quartet and big band, and has played with a wide variety of groups, including the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra and the Vancouver Opera Orchestra.
