Snowboarder injured NORTH Shore Reseve (NSR) made history Thursday night. Voijunteer searchers rescued snowboarders in the summer. The great amount of lingering snow on area peaks has inspired some risk-takers to return to the slopes — despite signs indicating closure. NSR team leader Tim Jones said searchers were called out before 9 p.m. to attend to three snowboarders at Mount Seymour. The mountain is closed for the season, but the snowboarders built a jump on the main run anyway. One of the unidentified males, a 23- yea-old North Delta resident, hit a ree and seri ously injured both legs. The injured male and his friends were evacuated by a crew of 15 NSR members with a snowmobile at 10:15 p.m. Grouse Mountain announced Thursday that the last weekend of spring was the end of its sea- son. Grouse has blamed the remaining snow for cancellation of an August Vancouver Symphony concert. Cypress Bowl, however, remains open for unprecedented summer skiing and snow- boarding.
