THE development-versus-preservation drama is an ancient
one, the plot of which has been played out since the first tree
was felled to make room for progress, The players are those
people fighting to preserve our remaining green space, realiz-
ing that the North Shore’s spectacular natural setting is our
greatest wealth, and those who seek to profit by building upon
it, in order to accommodate our swelling population. West
Vancouver residents are wondering whether development will
soon be allowed above the 1,200-foot mark, and in North
Vancouver's Seymour area, seen by many as the fast devel-
opable land on the North Shore, residents are frantically try-
ing to stem the tide of high-density housing flooding the area.
