CAA recommends an
improvement of fuel
consumption standards

THE CANADIAN Automobile
Association (CAA) recently
released its Energy Efficiency
Strategy for Road Transporta-
tion in Canada.

The strategy looks at the
transportation and = energy
needs of motorists of both to-
day and tomarrow, end puts
forward a set of recommenda-
tions to government and in-
dustry.

Among the highlights in the
document are recommendations
to:

@ Legislate fucl consumption
standards for cars and light
trucks.

® Improve fuel consumption
standards.

@ Promote alternative fuels.

@ Train automotive techni-
cians in alternative fuel
technolgy.

@ Promote proper disposal of
used engine oil.

© Build and maintain a more
efficient road network.

@ Promote IVHS (intelligent
Highway Vehicle Systems).

@ Provide infrastructure for
more multi-modal transporta-
tion.
