shocking fish story is unfolding. The

setting this time is the country’s West
Coast. The previous chapter was set on the
east coast, where the Grand Banks have been
robbed blind by human greed -— larceny ably
abetted by federal Fisheries and Oceans
Department incompetence.

The area’s cace prolific cod population is
on the verge of collapse, a situation almost
unthinkable when it was first discovered.

Equally. unthinkable to the rapacious and
greed-headed on the country’s West Coast is
the obliteration of B.C. salmon stocks.

But alarming signs in recent years have |

pointed to the unthinkable: chinook salmon
returns steadily dropping in Georgia Strait;
colio runs fluctuating wildly; a half million
Fraser River sockeye salmon disappearing.
