Bridal wear trends that tend to be worth their weight

TRENDS IN bridal wear are fi-
nally worth their weight.

After years of fashion designers
showing wedding gowns as 2
tiresome afterthought or designing
them purely for shock value, there
is change.

This year’s dresses may be
lingerie inspired, with trousseau
lace, slip and bustier shaped
bodies, ruffled torsos and may
even combine separates such as a
camisole, skirt and _ peignoir
jacket.

Dupionni silk, crepe, antique
lace, and charmeuse are all wed-
ding fabrics.

Sheerness is shown in see-
through organza bodices and
jackets that have large collars and
full sleeves similar to a blouse and

in Lyera and lace blends which cl-
ing to the body and give a peak-
a-boo effect.

There is a show of sleeveless
dresses which are cut like simple
sheaths or have small small off-
shoulder straps. And, though
most skirts are shown long, the
draped or straight-falling styles
are often slit to the knee and
above.

You can’t go wrong with a suit,
especially if it’s ’40s inspired.

Pretty wedding jackets with
dandyish tails or peplums, tiny
buttons down the front and
French or turned back cuffs add
romance. Collarless styles with
scalloped necklines or necklines
that sit up on the collar bone are
popular.

Clean cut and simply elegant
are key words to describe bridal
wear in the ‘90s.

When shopping for your gown,
remember that there are alter-
natives to choosing off-the-rack
styles at a bridal! salon and selec-
ting from a catalogue.

Consider restoring an heirloom
gown from a vintage clothing
Store, renting a wedding dress,
choosing a white evening dress
from a designer boutique, buying
a consignment wedding gown or
having a wedding dress made.

if you buy an antique dress,
certain North Shore dry cleaners
and dressmakers will restore a
gown that has yellowed with age,
mend a worn gown or freshen one
that looks closet worn.
