annual Master Gardener clinics =|

ONCE AGAIN it is time for the
popular Master Gardener clinics
sponsored by the Van-
couver Botanical Gardens
Association.

The association runs this volun-
tary educational program to assist
the general public with their
gardening needs.

The purpose is to teach people
more about growing plants and to
extend information related to
plants. Volunteers are trained to
provide information and
assistance in the area of home
gardening. Applicants from the
community receive instruction
from various professionals, and
zrowers, experts in their field.

To be certified, candidates must
complete the training program,
pass an examination and compiete
the volunteer commitment of 50
hours spent serving the communi-
ty. The initial training program is
offered only during a specific 2-3
month period.

The program provides an in-
tegrated, balanced, practical
course in plant science. Each can-
didate is expected to participate in
all training sessions.

Upon completion of the training
course, passing the exam, and
‘fulfilling the volunteer -commit-
ment, a certificate is issued to the
candidate. The Master Gardener
becomes a partner with the
Y.B.G.A. in extending gardening
information and advice to the
general public.

Certification is valid for one
year and can be renewed.

Clinics will be held on the
North Shore from April to July
(see chart).
