THE CHAIRMAN of the North
Shore’s seniors’ health planning
project was named as one of 15
members appointed recently to
B.C.'s first seniors’ advisory
council.

Sheila Jones, a former executive
director of the West Vancouver
Seniors’ Centre, joins chairman
Howard Petch, president of the
University of Victoria, on the
seven-man, eight-woman council.

In her role with the health pro-
ject, Jones worked to develop

comprehensive, coordinated plan-
ning for North Shore seniors.

Health Minister John Jansen, in
unveiling the advisory council last
Thursday, said council members
‘‘will play a key role in bringing
seniors’ issues and concerns’’ be-
fore government.

The council's mandate, estab-
lished under the Seniors Advisory
Council Act passed a year ago, is
to advise the minister of seniors’
concerns, ‘*‘to represent the best
interests of B.C. seniors, and to

maintain close links with major
seniors” organizations."

The regionally-balanced group
includes two northern members,
two from the Okanagan/
Kootenay, four from Vancouver
Island, and seven from Van-
couver/Lower Mainland. Native
and multicultural groups are rep-
resented among the 15.
