West Vancouver Police responded to the scene just after 7:30 p.m. A 1984 Toyota ran into the rear of a 1980 Kenworth trac- tor-tralier truck, resulting in the biockage of a westbound traffic lane. A third vehicte, a 1978 Ford station wagon swerved to avoid the vehicles and ended up in a ditch. In addition to the head injury, the driver of the Toyota was charged by police with driving without due care and attention. The Ford sustained $4,000 in daimage, the truck $2,000, and the Toyota sustained $12,000 worth of damage. Truck’s crane strikes overpass THE DELTA driver of a semi-trailer truck has been charged with ] driving without due care and attention after a crane he was trans- i porting struck the. Westmount vverpass on the Upper Levels Highway just after 10:30 a.m. Wednesday morning. The truck flipped and the driver, Mark Zambrzycki, was sent to Lions Gate Hospital with minor injuries. A West Vancouver Police spokesperson said the crane had not been adequately secured on the semi-trailer. Police tackle WEST VANCOUVER Police will be stepping up traffic enforce- ment on Tayior Way as a result of recent increases in traffic pro- blems on the street. The main area of concern for police is the recurring probiem of drivers blocking intersections during rush-hour traffic. The police department is requesting that drivers cooperate in leaving intersections clear for cross traffic. W. Van youth guilty of B&E A 14-YEAR-old West Vancouver youth was sentenced to four months open custody Nov. 17 after he was found guilty of break- ing into a West Vancouver home Nov. 12. West Vancouver Police report a 1300-bilock Ottawa Avenue home was entered sometime between 11:30 a.m. and 3 p.m. Several pieces of jewelry were subsequently stolen. A police investigation determined the youth as the suspect. Armed with a search warrant, police recovered some of the stolen property. Jonn Braithwaite said the precedent would “‘open up a can of worms.”’ “I’m very disappointed in this council for supporting what, to me, is illegal,’’ said Braithwaite. Ald. Frank Morris said there is an existing policy on secondary suites which enforces zoning regu- lations upon the receipt of a writ- ten complaint. ‘‘(To shut down the suite) would be in keeping with this policy,’’ said Morris. Gerald Vertone, the owner of a suite on 215 East 16th St., told council it should examine each case separately. ‘‘Each situation should be judged on its own merit. Every city in North America has this problem,”’ he said. Vertone said his secondary suite is only one of many in North Van- couver. He estimated the number of secondary suites at about 50 per cent of those in the city. Ald.
