Naphtali, executive director of the Lower Mainland United Way. Kae served the - North Shore Division United Way for 14 years as planning consultant. Kae McKenziehonored Fourteen years of service to the residents of the North Shore by Kae McKenzie, retiring planning consultant for the North Shore Division United Way, was recalled recently in serious and humorous vein by colleagues and associates. One hundred and twenty five guests representing all sectors of the three North Shore municipalities, gathered at Canyon Gardens Restaurant, North Vanocuver, in a “Roast and Toast” for Kae organized by the governing committee of the Divisjon. Jack Stevens, Principal of Westview School, began the Roast with tales of Kae's arrival on the North Shore in 1966 to set up the United Way’s North Shore _ head- quarters. Police Chief, J. Hornell of the West Van- couver Police, told of Kae’'s impact on the West Van- couver Police Commission as its first woman member, and his wry suggestion was that the police commission has “never been the same.” Thelma Ginsberg, one of many United Way citizen volunteers, described Kae’s expertise on the problems of the aging, and colleague, Mike Goldberg, spun out the nonsense to the delight of the guests. Howard Naphtali, Executive Director of the United Way of the Lower Mainland, felt it necessary to present Kae with an “of- ficial” scroll, giving her permission to re-enter the City of Vancouver. He explained that in Kae’s total commitment to the North Shore community she had forgotten that another world existed across the bridge. The scroll would remind her. Kae’s persistance and expertise in bringing social issues and the need for action, firmly to the at- tention of the local munici- palities, was the theme of West Vancouver Mayor Derrick Humphreys. He asserted that the B.C. Rail would shortly announce Kae’s appointment as “Rail- roader of the Year.” Lawyer husband, Frank McKenzie concluded the story telling by filling in the “true facts” from the families point of view, introducing cousins Don and Hazy Davies who had travelled from Seattle for the celebration, and reading greetings from daughter, Susan McKenzie. Sheila Gilmour, ‘Chair- person of the North Shore Division United Way, presented Kae with a locally knitted Cowichan sweater, on behalf of the guests.
