McCredie Contributing Writer Although there was widespread advertising of public meetings about the proposed construction of a new middle school dating as far back as 1990, some residents have. argued that the board has acted without proper public input. The board’s new plan to publicize the proposal to close the statement outlining the underlying rationale behind the decision and for the publication of the state- ment in local newspapers and community bulletins. In supporting the communica- tions committee’s proposal, and citing a number of factual errors presented in documents funded by groups opposed to the Caulfeild plan, District 45 trustee David Stevenson stated, ‘‘We must res- pond with the correct information to clear up certain misconceptions that are circulating within the community.”’ But not all trustees agreed on the publicity campaign. Trustee Margot Furk said she could not support the committee’s motion because it amounted to the board trying to ‘“‘buy public opi- nion with a propaganda cam- paign.”’ varied for Career/Vocational programs.
