Kiwanis has paid for the
lodging since then.

The fire victims will be liv-
ing at the North Vancouver
motel until Wednesday.

A 28-year veteran of the RCMP
with a desk job at the North
Vancouver detachment has not
lost his touch catching, crimi-
nals.

Staff-Sgt. Tom Haney was one of
the officers who responded Thursday
to an apartment in the 100-block of
East 6th Street.

The North Vancouver Mounties
were called in to a report that a young
man was seen climbing through a win-
dow of an apartment.

Haney was in charge of the shift of
patro} officers on duty at the time.

The staff sergeant said he was short
of patrol members and so went down
to the apartment building to lend a
hand,

“I was just there helping out and he
just happened to come out my way,”
said Haney, playing down his: part in
the arrest.

A 15-year-old North Vancouver res-
ident matching the description of the
suspect was spotted next to the apart-
ment building. ;

He was apprehended without inci-
dent by the stai¥ sergeant. “It was basi-
cally, ‘Come this way’,” said Haney.

Cpl. Fraser MacRae, the second
most senior officer on the patrol shift,
assisted in the arrest.
