POLICE IN New York recently filed
a false-report charge against
Nicholas Lalla, 32, in January after
he had swom out a complaint that
his estranged wife slapped him.
Lalla played for police an audio-
tape he had made clandestinely in

which slapping sounds are heard:

amidst his yelling, “Don’t hit me.”
When police informed Mrs. Latla
of the clandestine’ audiotape, she
played for them a clandestine video-
tape she had made of him making
the audiotape: He is shown yelling
“Don’t hit me” outside her house
after she has left to go back inside.

St. Paul, Minnesota — Judge
Salvador Rosas recently refused to
permit accused assaulter* Peter
Erlinder to be represented by his
lawyer of choice.

Erlinder had been charged with
slamming his fiancee, lawyer Jeanne
Chacon, to the ground during a
domestic argument, provoking her
to call 911 and accuse Erlinder.

. However, - several days later,
Chacon, who said she suffers post-
traumatic stress disorder from child-
hood sexual abuse, told police it was
“littke Jeannie (age six)” who made
the accusation against Erlinder and
that big Jeanne said the “assault”
was consensual and wanted the
charges dropped.

When the prosecutor declined,
-Chacon and Erlinder asked Judge
Rosas to allow her to be his defense
attomey in the case, but Rosas said
no. ;

hands with a power saw in the main-
tenance shop at the G. Pierce Wood
Memorial psychiatric hospital’ in
Florida last summer. Sy

He told authorities later that he
wanted to hurt himself badly
because he thought that would sure-
ly convince the authorities to release
him from the hospital.

Last February at the Canadian
Bar Association's three-day meeting
called to discuss the special problem
of sexism within the legal profes-
sion, the highlight of the weekend
was a toga party,

The party announcement by the
bar association (whose president is
female) called on “every Adonis and
Aphrodite to slip on that favorite bed
sheet.”

According to police in {llinois,
William Wykes, 57, burst into the
home of his bedridden father, Otis
Wykes, 85, and pointed a handgun at
him.

But before the son could get off a
shot, the father pulled his own gun
and fired four times, wounding his
son.

Said the prosecutor, “It appears
there was a history between the
two.”
