SOMETHING VERY new and quite unique has open- ed on Marine Drive in West Vancouver this past week. Joy Metcaife JOY TELLS ALL It’s Dr. Sandy Jamieson’s yew hospital for felines. Not for canines, only for pussy cats. He obviously loves kitties and definitely does not subscribe to Snoopy’s description that ‘‘A cat is the crabgrass in the lawn of life!’’ Last Wednesday night Sandy hosted a gala affair to launch and show off his new facilities -—~ even to the plush leather furniture. More than 100 guests turned up at the reception including all the merchants in his bicck. Aad no, he’s not calling it ‘The Cat House”’ or ‘The Cat’s Spa.’ It’s called simply The Cat Hospi- tal... Following the wonderful dinner, the 400 guests were treated to “A Touch of Cabaret "91"* a reflec- tion of the past cabaret shows that the League had traditionally pres- ented. Master of ceremonies was Dr. Phi Asmore who also performed his own rendition of Mac The Knife. What a name-dropping chorus line of high-kicking dancers including Joani Anderson and Sue Lewis of Eiu!vavor, who is a former Junior League presi- dent, and West Van’s Judy Gosney and Carol Colectough, a lawyer with Ferguson Gifford. Judy’s husband, Barry Gosney, and Barbara Howard sang while choreographer Joan Crewe Straight orchestrated the dance routines. Joan had choreographed 14 previous cabarets. Nice touch to have Bobby Hales and his band play the musical hits from the past 60 years which managed to get everyone onto the dance floor, especially Penay Moul who had worked so long on the many costumes for the cabaret performers. The third annual VOA fund- raiser, ‘The Night of a 1001 Din- ners’? was held on Friday evening, beginning at Delta Place, where the hotel executives provided me the loveliest start to our evening. ht was a most imaginative and elegantly presented dinner with individual appetizers for each guest with stuffed loin of veal for the entree, all accompanied by the appropriate wines. This was just prior to our buss- ing about town to different loca- tions with Fiona, the prettiest bus driver in town. After that sumptuous repast, I went over to B.C. Place Stadium, climbed 12 feet up a steep chimney tadder and bounced on their fiuffy teflon roof. They have pictures to prove it! Going up was a bit scary. Com- ing down was terrifying!
