While similar bookmobile ser- vices have disappeared elsewhere (there is only one bookmobile in Vancouver), the North Shore’s on- ly bookmobile continues to be a viable and popular service patronized by many of the com- munity’s less mobile residents, especia'ly seniors. “It’s a service that takes so much more than books out to people. For some of the patrons, I could be the only outside person they see all week,” says Grisdale. Operating the bookmobile re- quires an outgoing person who en- joys the social nature of the job, and all three West Vancouver drivers have fit the bill.
