Yankees streak to #1

THE YANKEES moved into first place in the Lynn
Valiey Little League’s major division after the team
knocked off three opponents recently to stretch its win
streak to seven.

In its latest victories, the Yankees doubled the Red
Sox 12-6, slipped past the Blue Jays in a 5-3 squeaker
and obliterated the Braves 11-5.

The Jays battled back to baffle the Braves 11-0
behind the pitching of Jesse Hawkins and Scott
Akerman.

In other action, the Cards were defeated 17-6 by the
Red Sox and 12-9 by the Braves, who also came from
behind to beat the Red Sox ’-4 on the strong relief
pitching of Shane Rive.

- The Jays also came from behind to beat the Cards
10-6 on a late inning homerun by Scott Akerman.

taurant Red Sox continued their winning ways with a
17-3 victory over the Sussex Realty Cardinals, a 12-5
win over the Seapac Industrial Blue Jays and a 12-10
win over the Goluboff Mazzei Yankees.

The annual general meeting for all parents, coaches
and umpires involved with the LVLL is set for Wed-
nesday, June 17, at the North Shore Winter Club’s
Jim Graham Lounge beginning at 8:30 p.m. ~

The annual baseball picnic is planned for June 21 at
Kilmer Park.

Renegades close to B.C. win

THE NORTH Shore Renegades
are one win away from _ repre-
senting British Columbia in divi-
sion one of the Canadian girls’
soccer championship.

The team will play for the B.C.
championship on the Lator Day
weekend. If the Renegacles win,
they will advance to the Canadian
final, which will be heid is Ontario
during October.

The Renegades have tun-up an
impressive record in B.C. youth
soccer since the team was formed

from two strong Lynn Valley
teams in 1984. Players have since
been seiected from the West Van-
couver, McSween and Mount
Seymour leagues to make the team
a true North Shore representative.

Some of the team’s ac-
complishments include winning the
B.C. provincial division three
championships in 1984 and winn-
ing the North Shore provincial cup
in 1984, 1985 and 1986, -

The team has placed players on
B.C. select teams in each year since
1984, and missed first place in

division one of the Metro League
by a single win this year.

Because there is such a short
time between the B.C. and Cana-
dian finals the Renegades are star-
ting their fund-raising drive now to
ensure they can make the trip east
in October. -

The team is counting on the
support of people and companies
on the North Shore.
