New voice heard

B.C. TEL customers now hear a
new voice when they dial 411 for
directory assistance.

Customers asking for any regu-
lar seven-digit listing receive the
information from an automatic
voice answering (AVA) unit. B.C.
Tel is the first telephone company
in Canada to use the new system.

Operators will continue to
answer all directory assistance
calls. After locating a number re-
quested by a customer, the opera-
tor will activate the AVA, which
will then announce the number
twice to make sure the customer
has received the information accu-
rately.

The recording will advise callers
to stay on the line if they need ad-
ditional help and an operator will
return to the call.

project is being coordinated by the
Mount Seymour Lions Housing
Society.

The three-storey, 31,000 square
foot development is slated for a
1.5 acre site in the centre of Deep
Cove in an area bounded by
Panorama Drive, Gallant Avenue,
Deep Cove Road and Naughton
Avenue.

The site is currently occupied by
the Deep Cove Community Hall,
which will be demolished with the
start of construction of the hous-
ing development June 1.

The Mount Seymour Lions have
set aside $60,000 to help pay fora
new Deep Cove community hall.

In conjunction to the develop-
ment permit issued. Monday,
council passed a development
variance permit relaxing parking
requirements for the development.

Municipal planner Kai Kreuchen
said current zoning for the site
could support a 30-unit townhouse
development. Ninety parking stalls
would be required for such a
development, but Kreuchen said
district. experience with similar
seniors housing has shown that one
parking stall for every three hous-
