Film maker captures award NORTH VANCOUVER | cinematographer, Robert McLachlan has just been awarded best cinematography in the Industrial category of the Ca- nadian Society of Cinematographers Awards. This is the first time the award has been given to a cameraman west of Toronto by the predominatly On- tario-controlled group. The award-winning production, a nine-minute marketing film, Canada's Wild Pacific Salmon was chosen from a field consisting mainly of large budget Eastern films. The film, which McLachlan also co-directed for Omni Film Productions in Vancouver, shows how seine and troll salmon fishing is carried out on B.C.'s spectacular west coast. The film also details the quality control in shipping and handling, including a compelling sequence shot in the new Ocean fish plant in Steveston. Canada’s Wild Pacific Salmon is being used by Ex- ternal Affairs to market pacific salmon around the world. McLachlan, 30, has lived in North Vancouver almost all of his life. He also acted as director of photography on the only locally produced feature film made in B.C. last year. All other productions came from the U.S. or On- tario to shoot here with an imported cameramen. Abducted, starring Dan Haggerty as a mountain man coping with a mad son, was shot almost entirely on Seymour and Hollyburn Mountains, and in Capilano Canyon. It is due for a summer release and has already received praise for its photography of the beautiful locations, which pass for the wilds of interior B.C. MeLachlan has also filmed TV commercials and is slated to shoot another feature in Alberta this Sum- mer which is expected to star Glenn Ford. projectors as you wish jOved ‘at-will! Can be used with.
