Children’s clothes to grow into

PARENTS know all too weil
that small children outgrow
clothes very quickly. But
buying new clothes is not
always necessary.

The Canadian Home Sew-
ing and Needlecraft Associ-
ation offers these money-
saving ideas:

TO BUILD IN GROWTH:

@ Make a deeper hem.

e Make = narrow vertical
tucks extending 2’’ below the
front and back seam of a
shoulder that is too wide.

e Form an outside tuck (or
two small tucks) above the
depth of the hem.

© Form an inside tuck
along a_ waistline which does
not have a piping of waist
ties.

e Long sleeve lengths can
be tucked or hems made
deeper.

e Button adjustment can
reduce size in length = or
width.

¢ To shorten pants length,
turn up deeper hems or insert
elastic through a hem casing
to form harem style bottoms.

TO ADD ON GROWTH:

e Wear long pants under
too short dresses.

© Apply hem facing to
make a false hem.

* Conceal creaselines of a
let-down hem by covering
with trim or rows of machine
stitching.
