a “You Are Registered” card
from the Registrar of Voters,
notifying them of the polling
station at which they should
cast their ballots.

TWELVE CANDIDATES, two of them women,

will be battling tomorrow

— Thursday, May 5 —

for the three North Shore seats in the 1983

provincial election.

Their fate,

by 8 p.m.

Thursday, will have been decided by 98,263
registered voters in the three North Shore ridings.

The total number of
registered voters is nearly
2,300 less than in the 1979
election, when roughly 65
per cent of them turned out

to cast their ballots. This
time, the numbers are down
by about 3,000 in each of the
two North Van ridings, but
up by around 4,000 in West
Van-Howe Sound.

Only two of the 12 can-
didates — Socred in-

cumbents Jack Davis and
Angus Ree in North Van-
Seymour and North Wan-
Capilano respectively —
have ever run for a seat in
the provincial legislature
before.

All the other 10
newcomers to provincial
politics, although John
Reynolds, Socred candidate
in West Van-Howe Sound,

are

was a two-term federal
Conservative MP — and
proven vote-getter — in

Richmond-Delta-Burnaby
during the 1970s.

Four years ago all three
North Shore ndings returned
Socred MLAs with
majorities ranging from an
adequate 2,600 (in North
Van-Seymour) to a massive
10,600 (in West Van-Howe
Sound) over their main NDP
opponents.
