Stopping the skinheads

BRIGHTON, England
(UPI) - Scores of . young
“skinheads” had to shuffle
through the streets of the
seaside town of Brighton
because police confiscated
the shoelaces from their
boots to keep them from
noting.

Police swooped down
Monday on trains,
automobiles, motorcycles

Savings
quadruple
in decade

Canadians continue = as
heavy savers and now have
more than four times as
much money in their per-
sonal savings accounts at the
chartered banks as they had
10 years ago.

The Canadian Bankers’
Association (CBA) says
there was almost $56 billion
in about 25 million personal
savings accounts at the
banks in mid-1979. up from
about $12 bilhon in 14
million accounts in 1968.

The average savings ac-
count at Apnil 30 held $2,230
against $869 in 1!968 and
$1,972 a year earher.

The CBA savs these sav-
ings provide an important
source of funds for the coun-
try’s economy in the area of
business and personal loans.
