Helping out THE YWCA of Canada has announced its plans for Canada’s largest and fourth annual anti-vio- lence initiative, the “YWCA Week Without Violence.” The YWCA Week Without Violence takes place this week through to Saturday, Get. 23 and will include conferences, events and activi- ties across the country. It’s a national initiative carried out through YWCAs in collaboration with schools, police forces, the media, corporate supporters and community groups in grassroots activities to bring Canadians of all ages, cultures, races and creeds together to find solutions to the vio- lence in today’s society. The YWCA has an ‘interactive YWCA Week Without Violence Web site . The Web site serves as a resource for people secking YWCA services and as a forum for youth to share their opinions, thoughts and feelings about violence. Visitors are invited to create their own Web page to display their opinions as supplies images, backgrounds and fonts for the Web pages in a simple and easy-to-use interactive interface design. The YWCA Week Withour Violence is an international event created by the YWCA of the U.S. in 1995 and is currently organized by YWCAs in over 30 countries. Canada’s frst Week $Without Violence was organized in 1996, and its popularity has grown rapidly ever since. From 1996 to 1999, the number of par- ticipating YWCAs has grown from 24 to 40, and last year more than 3 million Canadians were made aware of this campaign.
