AFTER years of fundraising and lobbying, the .ew Handsworth outdoor track is
officially opened for running. At a special ceremony last week at the North
Vancouver seccndary school, Kitty Castle and Mike Castle (centre), the prime
movers and shakers in making the track a reality, joined school and school dis-
trict officials for the cake cutting ceremony.

tells us a man’s home

phrase for the times, a
woman’s home is her
castle). —

Events of the past few
weeks lend themselves to a
new turn of that old phrase.
Namely, a Castle’s home is
her track.

Confused? .

Not. half as confused as

and Handsworth athietes
and members of North
Shore track and field clubs
are jumping for joy over a
first-class new track and field
facility in North Vancouver.

Yes, the Castles did it.
Well, the Castles led the
charge anyway.

Hundreds of local volun-
teers pitched in hundreds of
volunteer hours to make the

new Handsworth track more |

than just a perennial item on

‘ the School District wish list.

Those hours of. dedica-
tion were rewarded on
Thursday, Sept. 12 as hun-
dreds gathered on the new
track and field site to cele-
brate. ; .

Bands played, dignitaries
spoke and shook hands.

But most inpmortant of
all, athletes — both young
and old — did laps of the
new track, including a relay
