Shore celebrates heritage week BUILT IN 1880 at Mcodyville for the Moodyvilie Ferry Co. The S.S. Senator THE S.S. Senator was named in honor of Senator Hugh Nelson, who served on the Senate around 1880 and - who became the flieutenant- governor of British Col- umbia in 1882. The small ferry crossed Bur- rard Inlet on a regular two- _ hour schedule over a century ago. Built’ in 1880 at Moodyville Meet at ‘the Walter Draycott Memorial Statue at the junction ‘of Mountain Highway and Lynn ‘We are @ progressive contemporary for the Moodyville Ferry Co., she became part of the Union Steamship fleet in 1899 and was the first of three company vessels. ; The other two were the Leonora and the Skidgate. Her captain was Hugh Stalker. The Senator called at North Vancouver, where a wharf had been built in 1893, en route from Moodyville to Vancouver. It also served as a supply boat to sailing ships anchored in the inlet awaiting berths at ‘the Valley Road. Duration: three - hours — babies and pets welcome. Starting time is 1:30 p.m. sharp local Moodyville sawmill.
