Joy Meicalfe JOY TELLS ALL The Properties’ handsome and suave Harry Moll was the big winner last week in the shirt sweepstakes at THE social event.of the festive season, while finan- cier Peter Wall lost his! Meanwhile, the 2.09 carat dia- mond was won in a split between two West Van couples, and Me} Sprackman, who lusted after two bathrobes, paid retail (his father- in-law Marray Goldman will probably need resuscitation!) and Dr. Phil Ashmore did a great standup Frank Sinatra! it all happened at the fifth an- nual Crystal Ball at. the Four Seasens Hotel, a sold-out, $250- a-plate fundraiser for the Children’s Hospital. The hostess with the mostess, Jackie Houston, who had enter- tained at a very social luncheon the day before, was there with her developer husband, Jim. Jackie was in a pleated, tiered gown of silvery white, accented by a necklace and bracelet of dazzling emeralds. Also among the 375 guests were the chic Hildegarde and Tony Cavelti of jewelry fame; West Van waterfront dwellers Joanne and Joe Houssian; Susie, and the afore-mentioned Harry Moll. Susie was in an eye-catching floor-length, black off-the- shoulder sheath. Their good pal Wally Dezura was also there. Spotted restaurant fellow Bud Kanke and his ebullient wife, Dot- ty, who was wearing an eye-ogling short short black velvet pant suit trimmed with gold braid. Harriet Wolfe was in a colorful bouffant gown of bright pink and teal by Martha. Diana Turton was in sculpting black with silver braid while wealthy realtor Andrea Eng looked a slim sliver of red. Aline and Enrico, the Count and Countess Dobrzenski, enjoyed the ball, with Aline lovely in rich gold brocade. West Van’s Susan and John Evans were there as were Lynn and Kerry Dix, Kam and Henning Brasse and Mary and Franco Anglesio. Franco is the new executive VP for Coast Hotels. Nelson and Eleni Skalbania were chatting with friends, Darlene and Jack Poole, while Jackie Cohen turned heads in a sheer, short black and siiver mini. Jone and Russ Fraser looked wonderfully rested and relaxed. They’d just returned from Hawaii and were still sporting their tans. Jone had on the prettiest purple outfit shot with gold. Hosting our table were the always gracious Debbie and Ruy Paes Braga, the VP for the Four Seasons chain. Dr. Phil Ashmore, the retiring head of surgery at Children’s Hospital, put on a super show, crooning all kinds of great jazzy blues numbers like Day in, Day Out and My Romance. And it was financier Peter Wali who was so touched by the hospital benefit that he offered the shirt off his back. It was finally auctioned off by Barry Scott to the determined Harry Moll, who bought it for $2,500! That same shirt is now going to be auctioned off as an annual event. And next year, the curvaceous Susie Moll will wear it. And when the winning bid comes in, Susie will have to take it off — just as Peter Wall did. Next time, we'll definitely have a photographer on hand!... Congratulations also go out to the winner of the first annual Woman To Woman Magazine’s Most Eligible Bachelor of the Year! There were 84 entries in all and the winner was selected by a knowledgeable panel of female experts, including this scribe, at Hart Molthagen’s O’Doul’s Hotel. He was actually nominated by his sister, he’s a restaurant manager at Bud Kanke’s Jue Fortes, and his name is Benny Graydon. Ben- ny is quiet, handsome and very pleasant. He wins a number of great prizes, including a trip for two to San Francisco ... And that whacky production of A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum at the Centennial Theatre in North Vancouver was a winner both artistically and finan- cially for the Vancouver-Rich- mond Association for the Mental- ly Handicapped.
