Davis and his 1,000-member
group have agreed in principle with
the option being studied and have
asked counci! to schedule a public
hearing before May 31 so con-
struction can begin by 1991.

Next year is the district’s cen-
tennial, and the golf course is in-
tended to be u major project.

“Back in Juiy of last year, city
staff and council agreed this
should be a centennial project,” he
said. **But there are stili some
loose ends to be tied up. primarily,
when construction will start and
who will operate it."

Davis thinks the district has
three options: municipal ownership
and operation. transfer of control
to the North Vancouver Recreation
Commission, o1 privatization.

Davis added that the NVPGCS
is willing to step in and secure
tunding.

But he stressed that council
should opt for a municipally-
owned public golf course.

“There isn't an 18-hole public
golf course ov the North Shore,”’
he said, ‘‘and there’s a shortage of
golf courses on the Lower
