2 - Friday, September 22, 1989 - North Shore News Enhancement of Lions Gate Bridge reviewed WHILE ACCEPTING the final teport on the Lions Gate North Enhancement Project, West Van- couver District Council voted Sept. 11 to instruct municipal staff to do a more detailed cost breakdown on the project, which has an estimated $3.9 million price-tag. The plans have been on public dispiay at Park Royal and Capilano Mall and several public meetings have been held to allow for input into the revised concept. A number of priorities have been ouilined. It is proposed, for instance, that pedestrian and bicycle circulation Price or € be improved with new pathways and connections. View corridors to the Capilano River would also be opened up and landscaping done to screen the mobile home park and beautify the whole area. Improvements would also in- clude the addition of flags, ban- ners, distinctive paving and new transit shelters, along with the elimination of redundant and haz- ardous bus stops. Overhead wiring could be Mild, Med, Aged relocated or put underground and new lighting added. A major focal statement, com- bining sculptures and plantings, is also planned for the cloverleaf area, West Vancouver Ald. Andy Danyliu was concerned about the choice of sculpture, which in some cases, he said, cften “represents debris.” Ald.
